In order to discuss the impact of IUE observations on studies of Be star phenomena, we must first address the question of what a Be star is. J. D., and Landstreet, J. The IUE observatory has provided a wealth of unique observational material to nearly every area of astronomy. The research effort and the extensive results engendered by this satellite are an extraordinary proof of the value of such orbiting observatories and of the IUE Guest Observer Program. The fundamental operational objective of the International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) program is to translate competitively selected observing programs into IUE observations, to reduce these observations into meaningful scientific data, and then to present these data to the Guest Observer in a form amenable to the pursuit of scientific research. A design study of an ultraviolet-telescope satellite (UVSAT) has been carried out by the Japanese astronomical community. The main purpose of this satellite mission would be to investigate (i) the distribution and nature of ultraviolet sources in star clusters, galaxies, and clusters of galaxies, (ii) the physical structures of galactic nebulae, and (iii) the dynamics of stellar and galactic Cited by: 1. Ultraviolet astronomy, study of the ultraviolet spectra of astronomical objects. Ultraviolet radiation comes from a hotter region of the electromagnetic spectrum than visible light. For example, interstellar gas at temperatures close to 1,, kelvins is quite prominent in the ultraviolet.
